Retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) is a surgical procedure performed on the kidney using a viewing tube called a fibreoptic endoscope. Through this device, a laser fibre (Holmium laser) is used to treat kidney stones.
Procedure :In RIRS, the scope is passed through the urethra into the kidney.
The stone is seen through the scope and can be crushed by an ultrasound probe of evaporated by a also probe or grabbed by small forceps.
Procedure is done under general or spinal anesthesia.
